The gate is self-latching, self-closing, and closes off the stair access on the A-Frame Ladder (7200). The latch is high up on the ladder, thus resisting access to small children. This safety gate will come in handy when you aren't capable of moving the ladder in and out of the pool constantly, and don't have room to store the ladder.
